A Behind the Scenes Look
We are constantly getting questions about what products we use in our day-to-day lives in the RV, so I’m going to blog about some of our favorites over the summer. These are all items that we have found and decided to give a try based on recommendations from others. If there is something you think we should try, please leave us a comment and let us know!
Its Not That Easy
During our research prior to moving to the RV, one of the big questions we had was what do cat owners that live in an RV full time do with the kitty litter? The most common solution we saw was to put the litter box in the shower and then remove it when you want to shower. That just seemed like an awful lot of work as the litter box can be pretty heavy/awkward to maneuver. We searched for a solution that better met our needs and came up with a composite end table that houses the litter box and still allows the cat to easily access it.
What We Got
We chose the ecoFlex litter box cover – its made with a special composite material that doesn’t absorb urine, so its easy to clean and won’t smell if your cat accidentally misses the box and gets the composite. The composite material is of consistent coloring throughout, so if you scratch the surface, it is much less noticeable than the same scratch on a wood veneer. There are also 4 colors to choose from and other styles of covers. For us, we liked the end table model so we could use the flat top for storing things.
What We Did
We put the litter box cover under the large desk in our RV with a good litter mat underneath. We bought a small, topless litter box to go inside the cover. It looks great and most people don’t notice it right away even though it is technically in the living room. The front panel swings open, so we can pull the litter box out for easy cleaning. Wipes down with a damp cloth when needed – mostly just regular dusting.
Full disclosure – I accidentally broke the door on ours when I leaned directly on it while it was open. It was dumb on my part and we can still use our even with one of the hinges broken.
Overall Verdict
We paid roughly $100 for ours, which seemed a bit spendy at the time, but we were desperate for a workable solution. They have come down a bit in price since our purchase last year and we will definitely buy another one when this one wears out (or I break it worse).
For us, this litter box cover was a critical piece for us to be able to live comfortably in the RV. Great solution for us – highly recommend.
author’s note: I will update this review if anything changes in my opinion about this product.
